Regulations of Children's Products
Our Children’s products are regulated and must comply with Toy Safety Standards, comprising of EN71 Toy Testing:
EN71-1 – Safety, Mechanical and Safety properties of a Toy
EN71-2 – Safety, Flammability of a Toy
EN71-3 – Safety, Migration of certain elements
Toy Safety Standards do not apply to everyday children’s clothing, but as our costumes are tested to this level as a toy, our safety standards are above and beyond standard apparel clothing.
Smiffys Approach
Our dedicated teams around the globe, together, ensure that all Smiffys children’s items are manufactured and comply with Toy Safety Regulations, providing reassurance to our customers that Smiffys children’s products safe and fit for purpose.
Babies’ costumes are fully compliant, and we ensure they are washable to encourage multiple wears. We recommend that babies do not sleep in costumes.
Smiffys party and tableware ranges are compliant to all relevant standards, and all tableware is tested for food contact testing and plastic free.
We strive to ensure that all electrical items comply with the correct and most up to date safety regulations. We closely monitor any new regulations that comes into force regarding batteries and the disposing of them. Our products can vary with between non-replaceable batteries and replaceable batteries. We aim to ensure that the majority of Smiffys electrical products, are provided with a battery case where a captive screw has been used. Our Electrical items are compliant to; EN60825, EN62115, Rohs, and EN71-1, 2, and 3.
All Smiffys Cosmetics are manufactured at our trusted suppliers and adhere to the UK & EU and (or) USA Cosmetic Regulations ensuring the safety of all our cosmetic products for human use (CPSR).
Following legal requirements, all ingredients are clearly listed on Smiffys packaging and tested to strict standards for chemical and microbiological compliance. Some products are not suitable for small children, and this is stated clearly on the outer packaging for consumers to follow.
Adult costumes and accessories are required to follow Reach Compliance, ensuring that no harmful chemicals are present within our products. Smiffys labels and packaging on Adult costumes feature the ‘Triman’ logo that aims to inform consumers the correct disposal of products and packaging.
Going forward, Smiffys will work with all available information and authorities to ensure our products are compliant to all New EU regulations – the key areas for us being as listed below.
